Privacy policy
PeacefulPotty is a free website that plays brown and pink noise. This page explains what the site collects, why, and how to turn it off.
- We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site.
- We use Google Ads to see whether our ads work, and Google may show our ads to people who have visited the site.
- If you send a message through the contact form, we receive what you write so we can reply.
- If you join our mailing list, we use your email address only to send the emails you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Nothing on this site uses your microphone or camera, and there are no accounts.
- We don’t sell your personal information for money.
- You can turn analytics and ads tracking off on this device at any time.
What we collect
Usage data, through Google Analytics
When you visit, Google Analytics records information such as:
- the pages you view and how you got here, such as a search engine or a link
- when you start a sound and which one you choose
- your device type, operating system, browser, screen size and language
- your approximate location, at the city or country level
Google Analytics works out approximate location from your IP address but doesn’t log or store IP addresses. We look at this data as totals and trends, not to identify individual people.
To tell visits apart, Google Analytics sets these cookies:
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Tells one visitor’s browser apart from another | Up to 2 years |
_ga_6MTT1ZYKHX | Keeps track of the current visit | Up to 2 years |
We’ve turned off Google signals in Google Analytics, so analytics data isn’t linked to Google accounts.
Advertising data, through Google Ads
We advertise on Google. The Google Ads tag on this site records visits and actions, such as starting a sound or sending a message, so we can tell whether an ad led to a visit. Google may also use this to show our ads to people who have visited the site before (remarketing). Google Ads uses cookies such as _gcl_au on this site and its own cookies on Google domains.
Messages you send us
The contact form asks for your name, email address, a topic and your message. We use this only to read and reply to your message. Netlify, which handles the form, also records technical details with each submission, such as IP address and browser, to filter spam.
Mailing list
If you join our mailing list, we collect your email address, your first name if you give it, and a record of your consent: the date, the page you signed up on and the wording you agreed to. We use this only to send you updates, new sounds and product news from PeacefulPotty.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove you at any time through the contact form. We never sell your information or share it with other companies for their marketing.
Settings saved on your device
The site remembers your last sound, your volume and your analytics choice in your browser’s local storage. These stay on your device and aren’t sent to us.
What we don’t collect
Nothing on this site uses your microphone or camera. There are no accounts and no payments.
How we use it
- To see which features people use, so we can improve the site
- To spot and fix problems, such as a sound that won’t load on certain phones
- To reply to messages
- To send emails to people who joined our mailing list
- To measure our Google ads and show them to past visitors
We don’t sell your personal information for money. Some state privacy laws treat ad measurement and remarketing as “sharing” personal information or “targeted advertising.” You can opt out of both with the switch below, and we honor Global Privacy Control.
Services we use
- Google Ads (Google LLC) measures our ads and can show them to past visitors. You can also manage how Google personalizes ads in My Ad Center.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures how the site is used. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- Netlify hosts the site, receives contact form submissions and forwards them to our email. Like most hosts, it keeps server logs for security and reliability. See Netlify’s privacy policy.
Netlify also receives mailing list signups. We may use an email service to send our emails; it processes your address only on our behalf. These companies may process data in the United States and other countries.
Visitors in the EU, UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google Analytics and Google Ads don’t set cookies and aren’t used for remarketing. They send only basic signals without cookies, which Google uses to estimate overall traffic and ad results.
We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding overall use of the site for that measurement, and on our legitimate interest in answering you when you send us a message. For the mailing list, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
Your choices
Analytics and ads tracking on this device
On.
- Browsers that send Global Privacy Control are opted out of analytics and ads tracking automatically.
- Google offers a browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics on every site.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The sounds still work without them.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics keeps detailed event data for the retention period set in our account, which is at most 14 months. Summary reports may be kept longer. Google keeps advertising data under its own policies. Contact messages are kept only as long as we need them to reply and follow up, and we delete them sooner if you ask. Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them; we keep a minimal record of the unsubscribe so we don’t email you again.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including California and the EU or UK, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of certain uses. To make a request, contact us. We may need to confirm the request is yours before acting on it, and we won’t treat you differently for making one. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. No way of sending or storing data is completely secure, but we limit what we collect and who can see it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top.
