A painting of a sunlit washroom corner: a stone basin, an old brass tap, folded linen and a leafy branch.

The polite version of running the tap.

People have always turned on the faucet for a little privacy. It works, but a bathroom tap can pour out up to 2.2 gallons a minute.

PeacefulPotty does the same job with sound. A shared wall, a guest bathroom, a house full of people: set your phone down, press the lock, and let the noise blend in.

Choose a sound

How to use it

  1. Pick a sound.

Brown is deep and low. Pink is brighter and usually covers better on a phone speaker.

  2. Set your phone down.

Speaker facing the room, on a dry, steady surface away from the sink. Start around half volume.

  3. Press the lock as you walk in.

Starting before you need it sounds natural. It keeps playing until you press the lock again.

Questions

Which sound should I choose?

Brown noise is deep and rumbly. Pink noise is lighter and has more of its energy in the middle range, which phone speakers play well, so it often covers better from a phone. Try both and keep whichever you like.

Why not white noise?

White noise has equal energy at every frequency, so it sounds bright and hissy. Pink and brown noise lean toward lower frequencies. Most people find them softer to listen to, and they do a better job with lower sounds.

Will it cover every sound?

No. It isn’t soundproofing. It helps everyday sounds blend into the background. The room, the gap under the door, your speaker and the volume all make a difference.

Should I use headphones?

No. The sound has to come from your phone’s speaker into the room. If your phone is connected to earbuds or a Bluetooth speaker, disconnect it first.

Do I need to keep this page open?

Yes. While the sound plays, the page asks your phone to keep the screen on where your browser allows it. Some phones still stop the sound if you lock the screen or switch apps.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no subscription, no app. Nothing here uses your microphone. The page only plays sound.
